In the heart of the tranquil hamlet of Vals in the Canton of Grisons, Switzerland, the 7132 House of Architects stands as an embodiment of unparalleled architectural finesse and creative brilliance. Despite the hamlet's modest population of 1,000 residents, it has become a global beacon of inspiration, chiefly due to the awe-inspiring architectural ensemble that is the 7132 Hotel, celebrated for its seamless integration with the renowned 7132 Thermal Baths.
Inspired by the unique identity of Vals itself, the 7132 Hotel encapsulates a tourism concept that places utmost importance on preserving the authenticity and exclusivity of the offerings in this charming town. The intertwining of the hotel and thermal baths with the rich tapestry of Vals' history has resulted in a remarkable fusion, evident in every corner of the 7132 House of Architects.
Following an extensive renovation aligned with the visionary architectural concept of the thermal baths designed by the esteemed Peter Zumthor, the House of Architects welcomed a consortium of celebrated architects including Peter Zumthor, Kengo Kuma, Tadao Ando, and Thom Mayne. Each architect was given the artistic freedom to sculpt unique, visually arresting spaces within the House of Architects.
Central to this architectural marvel is the legendary 7132 Thermal Baths, an attraction that has bestowed global recognition upon Vals. With six pools ranging from the invigorating 14°C Ice Pool to the soothing 42°C Fire Pool, the thermal baths beckon architecture and design aficionados into a realm of relaxation. The Outdoor Pool, its waters reaching a delightful 36°C, offers a surreal experience, allowing guests to bask beneath the open sky, even after nightfall. The baths further captivate with a meticulously designed steam room, adorned with twelve sweating stone seats, and an array of tranquil resting areas. Moreover, the ESPA spa tantalizes the senses with diverse body treatments and facials, some drawing inspiration from Vals' picturesque landscape, incorporating indigenous quartzite rocks.
Within the House of Architects, a symphony of design philosophies unfolds. Peter Zumthor's rooms, adorned with stucco lustro, transport guests to the sensuous ambiance of the Italian Renaissance. Hand-painted curtains made of Habotai silk complement the rich hues of red, black, and yellow, enveloping guests in a lavish atmosphere. In stark contrast, Kengo Kuma has fashioned 23 rooms into cozy oakwood cocoons, featuring open floor-level showers resting on local granite bases. Tadao Ando, in his 18 rooms, pays homage to the subtle aesthetics of Japanese tea houses, infusing each space with a serene tranquility that directs the gaze towards the majestic alpine scenery. Meanwhile, Thom Mayne, in his 22 architect rooms, skillfully integrates wood and black stone, introducing free-standing shower stalls that offer a captivating three-dimensional experience of space.
After a day of exploration, guests can effortlessly transition to Peter Zumthor's timeless architectural masterpiece, the 7132 Thermal Baths, via a glassed-in passageway. Surrounded by the opulent offerings of Hotel 5S, including diverse restaurants and the sophisticated 7132 Blue Bar, this architectural wonder beckons patrons to embark on an unforgettable journey, transcending the boundaries of conventional luxury.
In essence, the 7132 House of Architects is not just a hotel; it is a testament to the limitless creativity of the world's foremost architects. It is a sanctuary where connoisseurs of design, history enthusiasts, and seekers of unparalleled luxury converge, immersing themselves in a world where architectural brilliance and natural splendor coalesce, crafting an experience that lingers in the soul long after departure.
