Koroi Forest Camp

A forest safari at the foot of Mount Meru

Koroi Forest Camp offers a different rhythm of safari. Hidden beneath the towering slopes of Mount Meru, within the mosaic landscapes of Arusha National Park, it is a place of filtered light, birdsong, and forest stillness. Here, the experience is intimate and immersive, shaped by ancient trees, volcanic craters, and glades where wildlife moves quietly through the undergrowth.

Overview

Koroi Forest Camp is nestled at the base of Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest peak, rising to 4,562 meters. The park itself is a quilt of natural habitats: crater lakes, open plains, waterfalls, and dense montane forest. This diversity creates one of Tanzania’s most unique ecosystems, where giraffe and buffalo roam alongside colobus monkeys and forest birds. From the upper slopes, sweeping views stretch toward Kilimanjaro and across the Great Rift Valley, yet down in the forest the atmosphere feels enclosed, secret, and deeply grounding.

The camp’s eight forest chalets are positioned to overlook a seasonally flooded glade that draws wildlife throughout the year. Elevated decks allow guests to observe the subtle theatre of the forest: bushbuck stepping through long grass, birds calling from the canopy, mist lifting in the early morning. The design remains light and respectful of its surroundings, allowing nature to lead.

Life at Koroi moves at a thoughtful pace. Days might begin with guided forest walks through glades shaped by elephants and buffalo, or hikes to Ngurdoto Crater and Meru’s dramatic ridgelines. Birding is exceptional, with forest and plains species intersecting in one remarkable location. Evenings can include night game drives, canopy observation from elevated decks, or forest dining experiences under filtered starlight.

As part of Entara’s portfolio, Koroi Forest Camp balances adventure with considered comfort. All meals are included, alongside curated activity plans tailored to each stay. It is a safari for those who have seen the Serengeti and now wish to step deeper into something quieter, more textural, and more elemental.

“I hope they leave with a quieter mind and a deeper sense of belonging to the natural world. That they see wilderness not as something that exists for us, but as something we are part of — something that has value simply because it exists.”
