Morukuru Ocean House

An exclusive-use oceanfront villa in De Hoop Nature Reserve

Morukuru Ocean House is a private sanctuary set within the wild beauty of De Hoop Nature Reserve. Surrounded by fynbos and overlooking the Indian Ocean, this exclusive-use villa offers rare coastal seclusion paired with deeply personalized hospitality. It is a place where families gather, where whales breach offshore in winter, and where days are shaped entirely by your own rhythm.

Overview

Morukuru Ocean House is designed for togetherness without compromise. The four-bedroom villa is booked exclusively, meaning there are no other guests, only those you choose to travel with. From the moment you arrive, a dedicated team including host, chef and guide shapes your stay around your preferences, whether that means sunrise walks along the dunes or long lunches overlooking the sea.

The setting is extraordinary. De Hoop Nature Reserve stretches across 36,000 hectares of protected land and more than 50 kilometers of coastline. It is widely regarded as one of the best places in the world for land-based whale watching between July and November. From the terrace or dunes below, southern right whales can often be seen breaching just offshore.

The villa itself balances contemporary comfort with natural textures and soft coastal tones. Spacious living areas open toward panoramic ocean views, while outdoor decks, a private pool and generous gathering spaces encourage slow afternoons and shared evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, in keeping with Morukuru Family’s philosophy of freedom and personalization.

As with all Morukuru properties, sustainability is central. Ocean House operates fully off the grid using solar power and water-based systems, proving that luxury and environmental responsibility can coexist seamlessly. Here, the experience is not only about privacy and comfort, but about being immersed in one of South Africa’s most fragile and beautiful ecosystems.
