Casa no Tempo

A private countryside estate in Alentejo

Casa no Tempo is not simply a place to stay. It is a continuation of family history, land stewardship, and a way of living shaped by time, memory, and care. Set in the heart of Alentejo, this private estate reflects Silent Living at its most expansive and generous, a house designed for gathering, slowing down, and reconnecting with what truly matters. Originally belonging to the founders’ grandfather, Casa no Tempo carries the weight and warmth of inheritance. Rather than preserving it as a static monument, Silent Living chose to evolve it with sensitivity, allowing the past to inform the present while opening the house to new stories. What emerges is a place that feels deeply rooted yet quietly contemporary, shaped by land, light, and intention.

Overview

Casa no Tempo sits within Herdade no Tempo, a working farm that supplies the house with seasonal produce and reinforces a tangible relationship with the land. From the moment you arrive, the surrounding countryside becomes part of daily life. Wide skies, open fields, and the slow rhythm of agricultural cycles set the tone, encouraging guests to recalibrate their sense of time.

The architecture, guided by Manuel Aires Mateus, is defined by openness and restraint. Interiors and exteriors flow seamlessly into one another through large openings, patios, and expansive windows that frame the landscape rather than compete with it. Local clay tiles cover the floors, heated during cooler months, grounding the house both physically and emotionally.

At the heart of the home, the communal spaces invite togetherness. A fully equipped marble kitchen opens onto a long dining table positioned in front of a vast window overlooking the swimming pool and surrounding fields. This is a house designed for shared meals, unhurried conversations, and the quiet rituals of daily life. The living room, luminous and minimal, centers around a sculptural fireplace that anchors evenings and slower seasons.

The four spacious suites offer privacy without isolation. Each room blends modern comfort with local materials, featuring walk-in showers, handmade tile finishes, and carefully selected furnishings. Casa no Tempo balances intimacy and openness, making it equally suited to family gatherings, creative retreats, or friends seeking a meaningful escape rooted in simplicity and space.
