Chyulu Lodge

A zero-carbon safari lodge in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills

Chyulu Lodge is a private eco-lodge in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills, overlooking the great savannahs and Kilimanjaro. With just six villas, it offers space and exclusivity while anchoring a powerful conservation mission. Owned by the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust and operated by Luca Safari, the lodge channels every stay into protecting one million acres of wilderness. Guests discover that luxury here means living lightly while making a lasting impact.

Overview

Chyulu Lodge sits at the heart of Olpusare Conservancy, a 2,000-acre protected ecosystem of wetlands, grasslands, and volcanic terrain. Named after the Maa word for “blue water,” Olpusare is both a vital wildlife corridor and a sacred landscape, shaped by generations of Maasai stewardship. The sense of space here is profound, offering solitude, silence, and uninterrupted connection to nature.

Built in 2020, Chyulu Lodge represents a new chapter in African safari travel. It is the continent’s first zero-carbon lodge, operating entirely on renewable energy. Induction kitchens replace gas, solar power fuels daily life, and electric safari vehicles glide silently across the land. Sustainability here is not a feature but a foundation, allowing luxury and responsibility to coexist naturally.

Accommodation is intimate and thoughtfully designed, blending comfort with restraint. Each suite opens onto a private veranda, inviting guests to observe wildlife, shifting light, and expansive skies from their own quiet corner. Interiors favor natural materials, breathable spaces, and understated elegance, ensuring that the surrounding landscape remains the main focus.

What truly defines Chyulu Lodge is its relationship with the Maasai community. In partnership with the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, every stay actively supports conservation, education, and healthcare initiatives across hundreds of thousands of acres. Guests are not passive observers, but participants in a living model of regenerative tourism, where wildlife protection and cultural continuity are inseparable.
