Ferien Werder im Scheunhornweg

Quiet riverside stays with Bauhaus spirit and garden life on the Havel

Tucked away at the end of Scheunhornweg, directly on the Havel, this smaller Ferien Werder property offers a more private and domestic atmosphere than its sister estate at Am Mühlenberg. With just two stays, a shared garden, a pond, terraces, and a jetty reaching into the river, it is a calm place of water, trees, light, and beautifully considered simplicity.

Overview

Ferien Werder im Scheunhornweg is part of ORTE, a collection of places designed and curated by undjurekbrüggen and ammi. Here, that philosophy takes shape in a quieter, more intimate way. Rather than a large historic estate, Scheunhornweg feels like a hidden riverside garden inhabited by architecture. The property lies on the mainland opposite Werder’s island town, with views across the Havel toward red roofs, church towers, and the old windmill. It is a setting defined by stillness, greenery, and water.

The property consists of two distinct stays: the Bauhaus and the Gartenhaus. The Bauhaus is an original 1932 modernist house designed by Peter Bartning, brother of the better-known architect Otto Bartning. Built for an artist couple, it carries the clarity of classical modernism through its proportions, light, and reduced material language. Today, guests stay in the upper apartment, Bauhaus OG, a one-bedroom retreat for two with balcony and atelier-like light. Nearby, the Gartenhaus reimagines a former garage as a one-story bungalow with winter garden, terrace, and space for up to four guests.

What makes Scheunhornweg so appealing is the relationship between architecture and garden. The two buildings open into a shared green setting with pond, sunken garden, old trees, and a timber jetty stretching into the Havel. Each apartment has its own terrace or outdoor area, yet the property retains a gentle communal feeling shaped by the landscape. From the jetty, guests can swim directly in the river, sit with morning coffee above the water, or simply watch the changing light over the island opposite. The mood is less expansive than Am Mühlenberg, but more tucked away and quietly residential.

Life here unfolds at a relaxed, almost hidden pace. Days begin with birdsong and river light, continue with walks into Werder for bread or coffee, and often drift toward swimming, reading, or cycling by the Havel. The property is also well placed for exploring Potsdam, Schwielowsee, and Berlin, yet its strength lies in making it easy to stay put. Scheunhornweg is not about entertainment or spectacle. Its beauty comes from proportion, calm, and the feeling of being gently sheltered between garden and water.
