Katambuga House

A peaceful garden guesthouse in Arusha

Katambuga House is a quiet refuge on the edge of Arusha, where birdsong replaces traffic and time begins to slow. Set within lush tropical gardens near Mount Meru, this intimate guesthouse offers a gentle transition into Tanzania’s wild landscapes. More than a stopover, it is a place to reset, breathe, and arrive fully before the journey continues.

Overview

Set among coffee estates and expansive gardens, Katambuga House feels intentionally removed from the energy of the city, while remaining perfectly positioned as a gateway to northern Tanzania’s national parks. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious, shaped by greenery, open space, and the constant presence of birds that give the house its rhythm.

The main house features four spacious bedrooms with king-sized beds, while additional rooms are located in garden cottages. These cottages are ideal for families, offering interleading rooms that allow both connection and privacy. Interiors are simple, comfortable, and designed to let the garden remain the main focus, rather than competing with it.

Life at Katambuga unfolds outdoors. Mornings begin with breakfast served in the open air, accompanied by birdsong and soft light filtering through the trees. During warmer hours, the swimming pool becomes a welcome retreat, while shaded seating areas invite reading, resting, or quiet conversation.

As part of the Entara collection, Katambuga House is designed as a place of transition rather than spectacle. It prepares guests for the vastness of safari landscapes ahead or offers a peaceful landing after days on the road. In its stillness, it reminds you that rest is as much a part of the journey as movement.

“I started as a nature guide, not a CEO. Most of my adult life has been spent in wild places, very far from good Wi-Fi. What matters to us is keeping things small, real, and human so guests can slow down enough to notice the small things that make it all work.”
