Silky Oaks Lodge
A treehouse retreat in the canopy of the world's oldest rainforest
Silky Oaks Lodge Daintree sits at the meeting point of two natural wonders: the ancient Daintree Rainforest at the door and the Great Barrier Reef less than an hour to the east. Forty treehouse-style suites are suspended in the canopy above the spring-fed Mossman River, shaped in respectful dialogue with the Kuku Yalanji, the Traditional Owners of this Country, and quietly composed for those who come to slow down.

Overview
The Mossman River is the spine of the property. Silver-green, spring-fed, and cool enough to swim in even on the hottest day, it carves through the lodge with a constant soundtrack of rushing water and birdsong that rises and falls with the light. Beyond the canopy, two World Heritage-listed wonders sit within easy reach: the Daintree Rainforest at the door and the Great Barrier Reef less than an hour to the east.
Restraint is the defining quality of Silky Oaks. Buildings sit lightly among the trees, suspended above the forest floor, and the day is paced by light and weather rather than by schedule. Service is warm and unhurried, and the atmosphere carries a quiet confidence rooted in respect for Country and for the Kuku Yalanji people whose knowledge continues to shape this landscape.
Six suite categories make up the forty rooms, from the canopy-level Rainforest Retreats to the expansive Daintree Pavilion with its tiered infinity pool floating among the treetops. Interiors lean on contemporary Australian design, locally commissioned artworks, and natural timbers, and every suite opens to a private balcony with a hammock. The Riverhouse and Billabong Suites stand apart for their open-air bathtubs perched directly above the cascading waters.
Days at Silky Oaks tend to find their own pace. Mornings often begin with yoga in the Marrdja Pavilion, give way to a swim or drift-snorkel along the Mossman, and stretch into reef expeditions, helicopter flights over jungle-cloaked peaks, or treatments at the Healing Waters Spa. At dinner, the acclaimed Treehouse Restaurant serves contemporary Australian cuisine with tropical and Asian influences, paired with a thoughtfully curated cellar of Australian wines. The result feels less like a holiday itinerary and more like an extended exhale.

Tips & Recommendations
01 / 05
Nearest Airport
Cairns Airport (CNS), an international gateway with daily direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and select routes via Sydney and Melbourne. Operated by Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia.
02 / 05
Getting There
A scenic 80 minute drive north from Cairns Airport along the Great Barrier Reef Drive, or 20 minutes from Port Douglas. Private road and helicopter transfers can be arranged in advance for a more direct or dramatic arrival.
03 / 05
Best Time to Visit
All year round, in two distinct seasons. The Dry Season (April to November) brings warm, low humidity days and cool starlit nights, ideal for rainforest walks and reef trips. The Green Season (December to March) is hotter and lush, with restorative afternoon showers and the rainforest at its most vivid.
04 / 05
What to Bring
Easy resort style clothing for daytime, smart casual for evening, and solid walking shoes for the rainforest. Swimwear is essential for the Mossman River and pool, and a hat plus high SPF sunscreen are non negotiable. Pack light. Humidity does the rest.
05 / 05
Staying at Silky Oaks Lodge
Resist the urge to over plan. Choose one or two big experiences, such as a day on the reef or a Kuku Yalanji walk at Mossman Gorge, and leave room for hammock afternoons, river swims, and long dinners at the Treehouse Restaurant.
