Tierra Patagonia
A serpentine lenga-wood lodge at the edge of Torres del Paine National Park
On the shores of Lake Sarmiento at the edge of Torres del Paine National Park, Tierra Patagonia Chile takes the form of a serpentine lenga-wood structure that seems more landscape than building, holding forty contemporary rooms inside a single curving form. The lodge has been recognised with Three MICHELIN Keys in 2025 and is built around expert-led expeditions into the surrounding park.

Overview
Patagonia has long carried a reputation as one of the last truly wild places on Earth. From Tierra Patagonia, the 2,400 square kilometre Torres del Paine National Park rolls out beyond Lake Sarmiento across pampas, four glaciers, ancient lenga forests, and the granite spires of the Paine Massif itself. Native wildlife including guanacos, condors, rheas, and pumas roams freely across the protected reserve, and the weather is famously changeable, often delivering four seasons in a single day.
Celebrated Chilean architect Cazú Zegers designed the lodge to all but disappear into the landscape. Constructed from sustainable lenga wood from local forests and curving along the natural line of the shore, the silvery structure has been described as an enormous prehistoric animal basking at the water’s edge. The 2025 award of Three MICHELIN Keys placed Tierra Patagonia among the world’s most distinguished stays, recognising a property of singular character and place.
Forty rooms span three categories. The Standard Room is a cosy 33 square metre cocoon dressed in soft furnishings inspired by the surrounding landscape. The larger Superior Room offers neutral tones, more generous proportions, and the option to interconnect with a neighbouring suite for families or groups. The two-level Suite is the largest and most minimalist, with an upstairs open living area framed by floor-to-ceiling windows onto the Paine Massif. Across all three, lenga-wood interiors and views of Lake Sarmiento or the surrounding park are constant.
Days here are shaped by the park rather than by a schedule. Two half-day excursions or one full-day expedition are included with every stay, leading guests across the four regions of Torres del Paine to hike to the Base of the Towers, cruise to Grey Glacier, ride horseback with local gauchos through ancient lenga forest, or trace pre-Columbian Aonikenk cave paintings on the Hunter’s Trail. Back at the lodge, the restaurant draws on neighbouring estancias for signature dishes featuring rhubarb, king crab, and Patagonian lamb, paired with Chilean wines and the lodge’s signature Calafate Sour. Uma Spa, set in a glass-walled sanctuary, offers a heated infinity pool, sauna, and treatments featuring local botanicals such as calafate, maqui, and Chilean laurel.

Best Time to Visit
The lodge operates seasonally from October to April. Spring (October to November) brings blooming wildflowers and puma cub sightings. Summer (December to February) delivers long, gusty days perfect for hiking and cruising. Autumn (March to April) offers vivid foliage, calmer winds, and quieter trails. The lodge is closed from May through September.

What to Bring
Patagonia is famously changeable. Pack layers, thermals, a waterproof jacket, sturdy hiking boots, gloves, a warm hat, and high-SPF sun protection regardless of season. The lodge keeps spare hiking boots, jackets, and binoculars on hand at no extra cost in the event of lost luggage.

Staying at Tierra Patagonia
Allow at least four nights to do the park justice. Torres del Paine spans four distinct regions, and a single excursion captures only one. Save afternoons for Uma Spa, the grand circular bar, and the wildlife that often wanders past the lodge unannounced.
