Hotel Hubertus: A Mountain Retreat Suspended Between Earth and Sky in the Dolomites
Apr 18, 2026

Set high above Valdaora, at the edge of the Dolomites, Hotel Hubertus Dolomites unfolds within a landscape of sharp peaks, shifting light, and quiet scale. From this elevated position, the mountains feel close, almost within reach, shaping both atmosphere and rhythm. Extending outward into this vastness, the architecture reaches its most striking expression in the now-iconic Sky Pool, which stretches into open air and softens the boundary between structure and landscape. Despite its bold presence, the hotel never feels imposed. Instead, it appears grown into its surroundings, shaped over time rather than designed in a single gesture. What exists today is the result of a continuous evolution, one that began as a small family-run guesthouse.

A FAMILY STORY, SHAPED BY THE MOUNTAINS
Today, Hotel Hubertus is led by Markus Gasser and his sister Daniela, who took over the property in 2020. Their approach has focused on continuity rather than reinvention, building on a strong foundation while introducing a more contemporary vision.
“The story of the Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus is one of family, passion, and vision,” Markus explains. “What began decades ago as a small guesthouse has grown step by step into the mountain retreat it is today.”
Over time, each generation contributed new layers, blending tradition with innovation while remaining deeply connected to the land.
“Our family has always shared a deep love for the Dolomites and a desire to create a place where guests can truly connect with nature while enjoying comfort and warmth.”
That continuity defines the experience. Nothing feels disconnected. Every addition reinforces an ongoing relationship with the landscape.
ARCHITECTURE IN DIALOGUE WITH THE DOLOMITES
A decisive shift in the hotel’s evolution came with the introduction of its architectural identity, most clearly expressed through the Sky Pool.
“The Sky Pool perfectly symbolizes our philosophy,” Markus says. “It is rooted in the mountains, yet reaching for the sky.”
Rather than competing with its surroundings, the design reflects them. Natural materials such as wood and stone echo local craftsmanship, while the structure mirrors the vertical drama of the Dolomites. As a result, the building feels both contemporary and grounded.
“It blends seamlessly into the landscape while offering a bold architectural statement.”
This balance between restraint and ambition carries throughout the property, allowing design to elevate the experience without overwhelming it.
A DESIGN HOTEL SHAPED BY THE DOLOMITES
At Hotel Hubertus Dolomites, the landscape is not simply a view. It becomes an active presence that defines how guests move, pause, and experience time.
“The Dolomites create a unique atmosphere,” Markus explains. “Their majestic peaks, ever-changing light, and peaceful forests inspire a deep sense of calm and connection.”
Across the property, that influence remains constant. Panoramic views frame the Sky Spa. Regional ingredients shape the cuisine. Outdoor experiences flow naturally into each day.
Guests can explore the mountains at their own pace, whether hiking and biking in summer, skiing at Plan de Corones in winter, or simply pausing to observe the changing light.
Beyond well-known destinations like Lake Braies, quieter locations such as the Antholz Valley, Prato Piazza, and the Fanes Plateau offer a more intimate experience. To deepen this connection, the hotel provides a weekly program of guided hikes, e-bike tours, and curated excursions.

A PLACE TO SLOW DOWN AND RESET
While the architecture draws attention, the experience itself remains understated. What guests take away is not spectacle, but something more lasting.
“We hope our guests leave feeling deeply renewed, both physically and emotionally,” Markus says.
That sense of renewal emerges through a subtle balance. Stillness in the mountains. Warm, grounded interiors. A rhythm that allows both movement and rest. An atmosphere free from urgency.
Moments unfold naturally. A quiet swim in the Sky Pool. A walk through the forest. A meal shaped by local flavors. Each experience is designed to reconnect rather than impress.
“We want it to be more than just a place to stay. We want it to be an experience that awakens the senses and stays with our guests long after they return home.”
A CONTINUING EVOLUTION
Today, Hotel Hubertus reflects a clear philosophy of balance.
“The Hubertus represents a philosophy of balance,” Markus explains. “Between people and place, architecture and landscape, rest and adventure.”
This balance allows the hotel to evolve without losing its identity. Innovation remains present, but never at the expense of authenticity. Growth happens in dialogue with the past, not in contrast to it.
Ultimately, what defines Hotel Hubertus Dolomites is not a single feature, but the continuity of its vision. A place shaped slowly over time, where land, architecture, and hospitality remain deeply connected.
In a landscape as powerful as the Dolomites, that sense of continuity is what endures.
“The Sky Pool perfectly symbolizes our philosophy: rooted in the mountains, yet reaching for the sky.”
